FG Students works on newly released “Lead and Gold”

Since a few months back me, Jakob, Stefan and August have been at the Swedish game developer Fatshark.

Stefan joined the team a bit earlier than the rest of us, entering the company as a 3D-modeller and concept artist. Stefan contributes with props and concept art for the upcoming project Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 (BCR2) as well as the newly released game Lead & Gold – Gangs of the Wild West. Jakob, August and I came onboard as QA-testers, meaning that our work were to test games extensively to make sure that everything was top notch.

But depending on the amount of work, we got other tasks to do as well. Jakob was given the chance to develop a DLC map for Lead & Gold as well as level design for regular maps. He also works with levels for BCR2. August has been writing pitches for upcoming projects based on existing IP’s as well as “homemade”. He’s also been working a lot with design for both Lead & Gold and BCR2.

I have worked a lot with story and writing in many forms. I’ve written in-game text for BCR2, worked with story for upcoming games and I’ve also written some pitches. Basically we’ve all been given the chance to work with what we want to do in the future. And now we’ve also been part of our very first released game, namely Lead & Gold – Gangs of the Wild West. And soon we’ll have our names in one more credits list when Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 gets released.

My name is Karl Andersson, and I recently took part in a group assignment to create a prototype for a game. The game had to be produced in UDK (aka Unreal Toolkit, the baseline toolset of Epic), and there were some fairly strict limitations on polycount and textures.

With that in mind, we tried to construct a concept that relied on the strengths of the toolset – primarily, it is intended for first person view – and throw in some more exotic elements like puzzles and moving parts.

We put a lot of emphasis on the story, not just in terms of background, but also through the visual style, mechanics, and audio design – we wanted the look and feel to be coherent with the overall setting.

In all, I think we managed to produce a good, playable concept of what is doable in three weeks. We were also lucky enough to be featured in Epic’s official showreel of UDK projects, shown at Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Hello everyone!
Time to show off some nice stuff from Game Project 2.
Our game was called Iwon, a 3rd person adventure game within the same category as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. You play as a spaceman called Iwon who has crash-landed on an island filled with simple minded grass-eating creatures. Your mission is to collect ship parts to get home. You can either do this by exploring the world, or completing quests helping the locals. The game offers a minimum of 40 minutes of gameplay with 8 challenging quests.

Exploring the Crystal Crater

 We have had a lot to do lately here at futuregames but the most busy days are now over so i decided to paint some environment concept. I decided to pick a fantasy theme giving me freedom to explore. My goal is to speed up my workflow and be more brave with colours. Lucky me im having such awesome classmates allways ready to poke me

Three days ago i made the very first piece of my “crystal crater” series. There you can see how the crater looks from the outside.   

The next two pieces am i satisfied with. One colder and one little warmer with a touch of vegitation. This is what you will find reaching deeper in the caves of the crystal crater. Im thinkig of adding warmer colours and more vegetation the deeper you reach.

Hej allihopa!

Är väl på tiden att någon skriver om hur det går för dem på deras praktik.

Jag, Patrik Hålén, och Pär Andersson har båda praktik på Milford Film & Animation och där har vi båda fullt upp. Första dan vi kom dit hamnade vi båda direkt i produktion och sedan dess har det bara gått framåt. Pär, som är modellerare, har konstant fullt upp med diverse props och karaktärer som det aldrig tycks bli nog av och jag som animatör har på senare tid haft upp till öronen med animationer till olika reklamfilmer som alla ska till olika delar av världen.

Första uppdraget jag hamnade på var den nya Boxer reklamen som precis börjat visas på TV. Jag fick till en början två scener som jag skulle animera, medans två andra animatörer hade mina scener som reserv utifall att mina inte dög. Men de var uppenbarligen nöjda med min insats och nu i slutänden har jag haft ett finger med i hälften av alla scener i filmen som inkluderar CG.

I helgen blev jag glatt överraskad över att se den färdiga reklamen på TV för första gången. Och för er som inte sett den än så finns den här.

This is the starting point of our platform game, which is set in the core of the earth. The character dug too deep by mistake, and wants to escape the monsters that live this deep down in the earth.
